Father Maxwell is the priest at the Maxwell Catholic Church on the L2 Colony. He willingly took an orphan named Duo in, with hopes of sending Duo to school and training the boy to be a priest. Father Maxwell saw himself in Duo, felt sorry for the future pilot, and found he could relate to Duo in a special way. He was killed after attempting to preach peace to a group of terrorists that tried to use his church as a base of operations. Duo was the sole survivor of this massacre, and as a result of Father Maxwell's kindness, Duo took the surname "Maxwell" as his own.
Sister Helen was a nun at the Maxwell Church. She and Duo had trouble getting along at first, because she insisted he cut his long hair and be more hygenic. Father Maxwell told her to let Duo have his way, so Sister Helen braided his hair instead, and Duo has kept it that way ever since. Sister Helen is a kind woman who tries her hardest to make Duo see the ideal of peace and to follow God, but her words never get through to him. She is fatally wounded at the Maxwell Church Massacre, but stays alive long enough to tell Duo that she loved him, that Father Maxwell never gave up on the idea of peace, and that she hoped God would bless Duo.
